Responsible Sexual Behavior Substance Abuse Violence Prevention
PROBLEM
STATEMENT: There are more deaths, illnesses and disabilities
from substance
abuse than from any other preventable health conditions. Approximately
one in four deaths are attributable to alcohol, tobacco and illicit
drug use with tobacco accounting for 79%, alcohol 18% and illicit
drugs 3% (estimates). Treatment of medical problems caused by substance
use and abuse places a huge burden on the health care system.
GOAL: To reduce tobacco, alcohol, and drug use and abuse
in Wilmington through education, prevention and treatment.
