Sexting, Tweeting, and FB updates: protecting youth from sex & tech
Wednesday, April 20

Ninety-three percent of teens ages 12 to 17 go online, 75% of them own a cell phone, and 66% say they text. It’s clear that teens are utilizing technology more than any other generation. This workshop will provide information and protective strategies for helping teens utilize tech safely and avoid online risks. Time: 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Cost: $35. Real Talk Survival Guide for Girls and Guys

Real Talk Survival Guide for Girls and Guys aims to “provide youth with skills and information to help them avoid or reduce involvement in high-risk behaviors and focus on positive youth development. The conference offers parents and providers skills and information to promote positive communication between adults and youth about high-risk behaviors. Free conference for youth ages 14 – 18. Women’s Health Event at Henrietta Johnson Medical Center

Wilmington Teen Pregnancy Prevention Round Table
Wednesday, May 18

You are invited to a FREE professional development event featuring national speaker, author, and teen pregnancy prevention expert Dr. Michael Carrera. Dr. Carrera will discuss the philosophy and components of his highly effective “Carrera Model” which has been implemented all over the country. Dr. Carrera will make available signed copies of his book “Lessons for Lifeguards: Working with teens when the topic is hope." The day also will include local experts who will share surprising data about youth risk behaviors and teen pregnancy in Delaware, a new local Carrera Model project, evidence-based and promising prevention programs that are being implemented in local schools and community based organizations, and how you can get involved. Time: 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Breakfast & lunch provided. Cost: Free. Latin American Community Center’s Board of Directors “Camino Latino: 5K Run/Walk”

You can run or walk the 3.1 mile course or do the 1.5 mile Family Fun Walk around the scenic riverfront. Prizes and metals will be awarded to the top finishers and refreshments will be provided for all participants after the race.
